Labour Induction Support
Gentle, Natural Acupuncture & Reflexology to Support Labour Induction
Helping your body prepare for labour naturally, reduce stress, and encourage a smoother birth experience.
If you are approaching your due date or have been told induction may be necessary, acupuncture, reflexology, and acupressure can provide a safe, natural complement to your care. Treatments help relax your nervous system, stimulate labour naturally in some cases, support breech baby turning, and prepare your body and mind for birth. Studies show acupuncture in the weeks before giving birth helps shorten the duration of the labour, dilate the cervix, and reduce the use of pain medication (1).
Pregnancy Acupressure Class
Acupuncture and acupressure are effective techniques for managing pain and promoting calm during labour. In our private, relaxed class:
-
You can attend with your birth partner, a friend, or just yourself
-
We teach practical acupressure techniques your support person can use during labour. This is helpful for the mother and also for the birth partner as it creates a feeling of usefulness, validation and involvement with the labour. Some couples have especially reported it a very bonding experience.
-
You receive a booklet with all course notes to take home
-
After the class, you can choose a follow-up acupuncture, reflexology, or combination treatment tailored to your needs
- Acupressure is normally taught from around 36 weeks
Women who use acupressure during labour often report reduced pain, a greater sense of calm, and higher satisfaction with their birth experience. This class is perfect for those preparing for natural childbirth or wanting effective coping techniques for themselves and their support partner.
Acupressure Research
Acupressure can reduce the intensity of contractions during labour significantly, and can also be used just prior to labour to help move things along if the patient then goes overdue in her pregnancy. A study (2) by midwives reported that acupressure produces similar effects to acupuncture, in which women report a reduction in pain combined with an overall sense of calm, as well as a high level of satisfaction with their birth experience.
In addition to acupressure, your practitioner may apply press-seeds in the ears on points which have an analgesic effect and stimulate uterine contractions. (3) Other areas can be addressed with acupuncture prior to labour such as back-ache and sciatica to help contribute to a more comfortable and successful labour.
